What we provide
The Skin Crowd is an online platform through which you can complete a skin assessment, book and pay for a consultation with a registered medical practitioner, and discuss a personalised skin-care plan. Consultations and clinical care are provided by Dr Christine van Looy (Pty) Ltd under Dr Christine van Looy (HPCSA MP0879240, practice number 1043781).
Eligibility
You must be older than 12 and resident in South Africa. If you are under the age of 18 we encourage parental participation, but it is not mandatory. We do not ship outside South Africa.
The consultation is a medical service, not a product sale
The R250 consultation fee buys a 20-minute video or telephone consultation with a registered practitioner. It does not guarantee any particular treatment outcome. If the practitioner concludes that your condition is not suitable for remote treatment, or that you should be examined in person, the consultation fee remains payable, because the service was rendered.
No treatment plan is finalised on a questionnaire alone
Your online assessment and photographs inform the consultation but are never the sole basis for finalising a treatment plan. A registered practitioner reviews your history and consults with you before any treatment plan is confirmed. This reflects clause 5.5(b) of HPCSA Booklet 10.
Prices and what you pay
All prices include VAT where applicable and are in South African Rand. The R250 consultation fee is once-off and separate. Monthly packages start at R450 per month (Starter), R550 per month (Maintenance), or R750 per month (Intensive), billed quarterly, and the exact amount is set by your practitioner based on what is clinically appropriate for you. Delivery within South Africa is included in the plan price. We will tell you the exact amount before you pay.
Recurring payments
Where you agree to a recurring payment, we will tell you the amount, the frequency and the date of the first collection before you authorise it. We will notify you before each collection if the amount differs from the amount you authorised. You may cancel a recurring payment at any time from your account or by contacting us; cancellation takes effect from the next unbilled cycle.
Minimum duration
There is no minimum term. Plans run month to month and you may cancel at any time. (ECT Act s43(1)(q).)
Delivery
Programme products are dispatched once paid for. Delivery usually takes 7–10 working days within South Africa only. Delivery is to the address you supply; please make sure it is correct. Packaging is plain and unbranded.
Your obligations
You must give complete and accurate information about your health, medication, allergies and medical history. Clinical decisions rely on it. Do not share products from your plan with anyone else. Use them only as directed. Tell your practitioner about any adverse reaction promptly.
Medical disclaimer
Nothing on this website is a substitute for an in-person medical assessment. If your skin is painful, infected, blistering or rapidly worsening, or if you have any systemic symptoms, seek in-person medical care immediately. Results vary between individuals and no outcome is guaranteed.
Your record
We create and keep a health record for you as required by sections 13 to 17 of the National Health Act 61 of 2003 and the HPCSA guidelines. Records are kept for at least six years from the date the record becomes dormant. See our Privacy and POPIA notice.
Cancellation, refunds and returns
See the Refund and Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Complaints and disputes
Contact us first at hello@theskincrowd.co.za. If we cannot resolve it, you may refer a consumer complaint to the National Consumer Commission, a clinical complaint to the Health Professions Council of South Africa, a pharmacy complaint to the South African Pharmacy Council, or a privacy complaint to the Information Regulator.
Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything that may not lawfully be limited, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
Governing law
South African law. The courts of South Africa have jurisdiction.
Changes
We may change these terms. The version in force is the one published here on the date of your transaction. Effective date: TBC.
