About
About The Skin Crowd
The Skin Crowd is an online, doctor-led acne service for people across South Africa. You complete an online skin assessment, meet a registered doctor by video, and follow a plan the doctor sets for you after the consult.
Who provides your care
Consultations and clinical care are provided by Dr Christine van Looy (Pty) Ltd, practising under Dr Christine van Looy, a registered medical practitioner (HPCSA MP0879240, practice number 1043781).
Dr Christine van Looy is not a dermatologist. When your skin needs a specialist or an in-person examination, she refers you. A plan is never finalised on a questionnaire alone: she reviews your assessment and photos and speaks to you before any treatment is agreed.
Online only
There are no clinic visits, walk-ins or waiting rooms. The address below is our registered office, for legal notices only, and is not open to visitors. Painful, infected or rapidly worsening skin needs in-person care, and we will tell you if that applies to you.

How we write and review our guides
Our guides explain acne and the options a doctor may discuss, in plain language. They are general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan for you.
- Sources. We work from clinical guidelines, systematic reviews and trials, and from South African regulators and official bodies for anything specific to South Africa. Every guide lists its sources at the end.
- Medical review. Dr Christine van Looy reviews every guide before it is published. The page shows the date of her review.
- Updates. We check each guide at least once a year, and sooner when guidance changes. The page shows when it was last updated.
- Medicines. In South Africa, prescription medicines may not be advertised to the public. Our guides name medicines only to explain the options a doctor may discuss, never to sell them.
- Corrections. If you think something in a guide is wrong, email hello@theskincrowd.co.za and we will check it.
